I, Dr Aratrika Das, am a reasonably acceptable wife to my husband Mr. Tapan Kumar Das and I’m proud to have a bubbly daughter named Meghomala Das. I am an alumnus of the famous Calcutta Medical College Kolkata and KEM hospital and Seth GS Medical college Mumbai.
Besides being a doctor I have done post graduation in Kathak dance of Lucknow gharana and was honoured with a gold medal for standing first in West Bengal.
I am a senior consultant pulmonologist and allergist attached to Narayan Hrydyalay group of hospitals (RTIICS) and also director of Kolkata Chest and Allergy centre. I am also the faculty teacher of post graduate students in respiratory medicine.
I want to leave a mark in pulmonology through my lectures and writings and create a unit of interventional pulmonology state of the art in eastern India.
My role model is my father who was a railway engineer and a freedom fighter. He was a personality much ahead of his times and a wonderous combination of softness and strictness and also was a walking encyclopaedia. Be it cricket or football or be it music or science his knowledge knew no bounds. Try as much as I could I haven’t been able to reach his honest personality even remotely. My utmost respects are reserved for him.
My favourite musician is of course Pandit Ravi Shankar who’s sitar recitals just take me off my feet.
When it comes to movies I think my favourite is The Sound of Music and I never tire of seeing it repeatedly.
My favourite actor is without doubt our very own Mr Amitabh Bachchan who not only keeps shining at 84 yrs of age but also repeatedly reminds us what a good and empathetic human being he is through various speeches he gives around the world. Yes his baritone is to die for but the words uttered do touch every chord in our souls.
Well when it comes to choosing my favourite city it has to be my birth place Kolkata. I was born here , nurtured here, enjoyed my childhood and youth here, stayed with my parents and relatives here, lost most of them here and now after roaming the world have made my permanent place here amidst innumerable memories scattered in all nooks n corners.
And since Kolkata is my favourite place of stay there is no prize for guessing that Bengali cuisine holds the honour of best food caressing my tongue. Be it the daily Bhat-dal or the aristocratic thakurbarir khabar I love all Bengali dishes.
This in a nutshell is about all you wanted to know about me. But this will remain incomplete without mentioning my husband Mr Tapan Das who helped me in all ways to set up my practice even to the extent of sacrificing his own work.
